Commuter Supercars For Autoweek

January 31st, 2012 by admin

Joe Limongelli, Ford GT

Having grown up around a car crazed father, it naturally rubbed off on me. But after selling my car upon my move to New York years ago, I was left with a void in my heart. So getting the call from Tara Klein at Autoweek to drive around in three supercars in  and around the city, I was hyped to say the least. Here is a selection of images from those days of cruising around in some amazing cars that three gentleman use as their daily drivers. If you’re wondering which one I would want for myself, it would be the Enzo without a doubt. For the full edit have a look at my site.

Jordyn Wieber For ESPN Magazine

January 11th, 2012 by admin

Got to travel out to Lansing, Michigan to photograph 2011 all around gymnastics champion Jordyn Wieber for the “Next” issue of ESPN Magazine! She was a great sport and went straight into a routine on the beam at 7am. I love the image chosen, but figured I’d share some of the others that didn’t make the cut. Enjoy, and grab an issue on newsstands now!

Pre routine stretch.

Arm warm ups.

Contemplative locker room portrait.

Jordyn and her trainer.

Waited all day for this.

Chris Southerly For Popular Mechanics

January 9th, 2012 by admin

I was blessed with the opportunity to photograph underwater archeologist Chris Southerly a mile off the coast of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina for Popular Mechanics. After a last minute reschedule due to tropical storms, we were forced to come out the day the crew was bringing up a cannon from the wreckage of Queen Annes Revenge, one of Blackbeards sunken ships! Heres a few outtakes from the day of our shoot.

Theo Epstein For ESPN Magazine

January 5th, 2012 by admin

Took a road trip up to Vermont for a fundraiser for local farmers to photograph General Manager of the Red Sox, Theo Epstein for the Interview Issue of ESPN Magazine.

His demeanor was polite and gracious up until we found Yankees GM Brian Cashman looming in the background and had him step in for a few frames…

Take it easy guys, the season doesn’t start for months.

Went down to Orlando a few weeks ago to shoot Amy Jo Martin and the great Shaquille O’Neal for Bloombergs article “The woman Behind @Shaq”. We got to spend an evening drinking smoothies and listening to 2Pac while shooting portraits of my assistant Bear kungfu kicking Shaq! Goodtimes. Thanks all!

I shot for the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. We spent 3 days experiencing and shooting all of the different facets of student life. From classroom, to sailboat we documented student life for the USCGA’s new run of brochures and web material.

Everyone involved in the project from Sapient, the creative agency, to our campus liaison was extremely supportive and made for a productive shoot. To view more of the work, please visit the portfolio on my site.

Travis Pastrana Outtakes

August 1st, 2011 by admin

Travis backflipping over Lin-Z, Jolene, and Tommy

The XGames came and went over the weekend, and for those of you who watched, you might have seen some of the drama unfold with Travis’s accident that took him out of racing Nascar Saturday, and left him racing his Rally car Sunday with a broken leg and using a custom made hand control to accelerate the car. Its a damn shame he wasn’t able to compete in all his events. When we were at his house a few weeks ago for an article for ESPN Magazine, Travis proved to be a super positive guy and made our day memorable and most definitely productive. I’m sure he’ll be right back at it in a couple months, but In the meantime, here is a series of outtakes from our shoot. Get better soon Travis!

Rules of the house.

Childhood bike.
The new bike.
Me and one of the neighbors flipping out.
Our awesome writer from ESPN Alyssa, jumping in for a lighting test.

Our transportation for the day.. I got to drive this little guy on the dirtbike track.Amazing.

ESPN Magazine : XGames at Home

July 27th, 2011 by admin

“Home Cookin” – The Fan Issue – July 25 – 2011

I had the pleasure of spending a few weeks in May and June traveling around the country shooting five portraits of X-Games athletes in their private training facilities. Photo Editor Joe Rodriguez and I worked together to put Senior ESPN writer Alyssa Roenigk’s story to life, traveling to Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Kansas City and finally Baltimore, getting to spend a day a piece with everyone. I can honestly say that this was one of my favorite and most rewarding assignments to date, and would like to thank everyone involved. Click here to view the images on my website. And click below to read more.

Travis Pastrana

Image

After spending his whole morning on a film shoot for an ESPN commercial with his crew from Nitro Circus, Travis instantly changed gears and jumped on his mini bike for a quick backflip over his front yard vert ramp, then proceeded to bounce from trampoline to golf cart doing wheels and impressing the heck out of all of us with positive attitude and amazing talent. His Baltimore property is definitely a palace for experimenting in his Moto-X, Mountain Bike, BMX, and Rally endeavors. And lets also not forget he just signed a huge Nascar deal. Looks like he may need a few more acres for a nice oval track in the backyard…

Curren Caples

Image

Having been a fan of Curren’s style for a few years, I was more than stoked to have the chance to see him skate in person. It is really amazing how effortless his frontside carves on the vert wall (seen above) were first thing in the morning. Doing it over and over to get the right expression for our portrait, he kept bouncing around his park, blasting off every possible hip in the building while he waited foreach shot. Full of energy and talent, I imagine Curren will be around for years to come.

Brian Kachinsky

Image

Out of all the guys we shot, Brian was by far the most excited about the shoot, and definitely went out on a limb for us, riding for hours, and getting a handful of tricks in his hand built park in an abandoned bakery in Chicago. He was super enthusiastic about having us there, and went to great lengths to make sure every image was up to par and worthy of being seen by the mag. Thanks for all your hard work Brian!

Sean Malto

Image

Malto’s Kansas City park is about as perfect as it gets. Which might explain how he is so damn flawless on a skateboard. Getting to ask him to try an array of tricks and see him land everything pretty much first try was definitely a dream come true as I have seen him in videos and mags for years. It was rad to meet him as he was super chill and down to earth. I only hope next time well have more time to hang out so I can skate the park too.

Robbie Maddison

Image

The first of all our shoots and in my opinion the most mind blowing was the time we spent with Robbie at his Temecula motocross park perched in his front yard. Upon arrival we found the quiet and confident Maddison having a coffee with his family and inspecting his bikes before telling us to meet him down in the yard in a few minutes. Before even setting up we heard the rumbling of his bike and scrambled to get a camera out just in time to see him blast a huge backflip just before 9am. This was just the beginning of what turned out to be a mid blowing day of witnessing Robbie practice a trick never landed in competition; the body varial, into his brand new $100,00 Red Bull foam pit. After a few close calls and quick lunch brake, Robbie stuck a perfect one, and was just as quick off to Spain to put into competition in the X-Fighters World Tour

Leslie Blodgett For Businessweek

July 11th, 2011 by admin

I spent a few days in San Francisco to photograph Bare Essentials CEO Leslie Blodgett in her downtown office for a “Hard Choices” article. With the appearance of a video crew who were to follow us up, Leslie had a long day ahead of her, but she still gave us enough time to bump some Wu Tang and shoot a couple portraits. Theres nothing better than starting the day with a little C.R.E.A.M.

Harley Viera Newton For Jalouse

June 14th, 2011 by admin

I had the pleasure of spending a day with model / DJ, Harley Viera Newton, photographing her, as well as and her apartment for another “Dressings” article for Jalouse. She was super easy going and fun to shoot, have a look at the images here, as well as my past shoots for Jalouse.
